Charities
The Carolina Shag Club has two primary tenets. First, is to preserve the Carolina Shag and it's music. The second is to donate to charities. We give to several different charities but we have a long history of donating to the two shared below.
Camp Courage
Camp Courage, a part of the Greenville Hospital System, is a camp for children with cancer that is held each spring and fall. High on the list of indirect benefits is the fact that children in the early stages of chemotherapy get the chance to play and connect with children who have survived the ordeal. It gives the kids a chance to do things they can’t usually do such as team sports. The Carolina Shag Club is blessed and excited to teach these amazing kids shag during their camp.
Ellen Taylor Foundation
The Ellen Taylor Foundation for Junior Shaggers is a non-profit charitable foundation dedicated to financial assistance in the education, preservation, and promotion of the Shag, the state dance of South Carolina. They provide funding for young shaggers learning the dance which includes shoes, lessons, etc. Ellen Taylor has been instrumental in the Shag world and this foundation is her legacy.
